Emotional Containment

Emotional Containment
When someone we love is overwhelmed,
our first instinct is often to remove their pain.
We explain.
Reassure.
Solve.
Convince.
Sometimes none of it helps.
Not because our words are wrong.
But because emotions are rarely persuaded by logic.
There is another possibility.
What if our role is not to remove another person's storm...
but to become the tree beneath which they may rest?
The banyan does not stop the rain.
It simply offers shelter.
People often become calmer not because someone solved their feelings.
But because someone remained calm beside them.
Presence can regulate what persuasion cannot.
The strongest people are not always those with the best advice.
Sometimes they are simply those whose calm quietly reminds others that storms eventually pass.
